Arvind Kejriwal is in jail: The CM of Delhi has been Arrested by ED in a Liquor Policy Case Today 21 March 2024

On March 21, in New Delhi, the government’s financial crime unit arrested Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi. This happened after a court decided not to stop the unit from taking action against him. Kejriwal is linked to a case about money issues related to a policy on alcohol sales. His political group, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was upset and said he would keep being the Chief Minister, even if he had to do it from jail.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Kejriwal should quit his job as Chief Minister because it’s the right thing to do. The financial crime unit’s team went to Kejriwal’s house, searched it, and arrested him later that night. They also took some things from his house.

Arvind Kejriwal was taken to the unit’s office in a car. He will be brought to court the next day. The unit has already made many legal claims against him and said that the policy on alcohol sales was not fair and involved illegal payments. The AAP disagrees with this.

The policy was cancelled, and now there’s an investigation into how it was made and used. Arvind Kejriwal didn’t go to the meetings the unit asked him to, and he said those meetings were not legal. More police were sent to his house because they thought his supporters might protest.

Many AAP members showed support for Arvind Kejriwal near his house. The police also made sure there was more security near the financial crime unit’s office. Kejriwal tried to get help from the Supreme Court, and another AAP leader asked the court to cancel Kejriwal’s arrest right away.

This situation is similar to what happened to another politician, K Kavitha, who was also arrested by the same unit. Other AAP leaders are also involved in this case and are being held by the court. The unit says that Kejriwal was involved in making the unfair policy and that people paid him for it.

The government’s financial crime department said that a political leader named Kavitha and some others worked together with top leaders of the AAP party, like Kejriwal and Sisodia, to get special treatment by giving money to the party that is in charge of Delhi. This was about a policy for selling alcohol in Delhi that is no longer used.

Kavitha, who is 46 years old and the daughter of a former leader of Telangana, was taken from her home in Hyderabad by the government agency and will stay with them until March 23.

An AAP leader named Saurabh Bharadwaj, who went to Kejriwal’s house when the government agency arrived, said to the news people, “It looks like the agency is searching the house. I couldn’t go inside. It seems they plan to arrest him.”

Another person, Atishi, who was with the group outside the chief minister’s house, said to the news people, “This shows that the Prime Minister is afraid of Kejriwal. He has made a plan to put him in jail before the big election.”

An AAP member of parliament, Raghav Chadha, said there is a “big plan” to arrest Kejriwal just before the big election.

The party posted online, “The agency has come to the house of Delhi’s son, Kejriwal! The BJP should know they are trying to fight against someone the whole country supports. The people of Delhi are watching. No one will stay quiet today.”

They also posted, “The BJP will do anything to defeat Kejriwal. The people, including those in Delhi, support their hero Kejriwal today. This unfair rule won’t last. There will be an Arvind Kejriwal in every home.”
The leader of the BJP in Delhi, Virendra Sachdeva, said, “If Arvind Kejriwal still cares about doing the right thing, he should leave his job and work with the agency.”

Earlier, a court in Delhi with two judges, Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain, decided not to stop the agency from taking action against Kejriwal.

The court will think more about Arvind Kejriwal’s request on April 22, when they will also look at his main complaint against the agency’s call for him to come in. The court asked the agency to give their side of the story.

Arvind Kejriwal is also involved in another case with the agency about some problems with the Delhi water department.
