Let’s talk about watermelon, a fruit we all love, especially in the summertime. It’s juicy, red, and perfect for cooling down when it’s hot outside. But did you know that putting it in the fridge might not be the best idea if you want to keep all its good stuff?
When you chill watermelon, it loses some of its important nutrients. There’s this thing called citrulline, which is really good for us. It helps with things like blood pressure and inflammation. But when you keep watermelon cold, it loses some of that good stuff. Researchers did a study and found that watermelon left at room temperature has more nutrients than the Refrigerating Watermelon.
They did an experiment where they kept watermelons at different temperatures for two weeks. The ones at room temperature had way more nutrients than the cold ones. Also, watermelons in the fridge can go bad faster than the ones left out.
Now, about the taste – sure, cold watermelon is nice, but room-temperature watermelon actually tastes better. Refrigerating Watermelon can change the colour and flavour, and nobody wants a watermelon that’s not as tasty or healthy.
So, what should you do? If you have a watermelon, it’s better to keep it at room temperature until you’re ready to eat it. Only put it in the fridge if you plan to eat it within a few days. And if you really want something cold, how about making watermelon popsicles?

Let’s talk about some fruits that are happier staying outside of the cold refrigerator. These fruits like being at room temperature because it helps them keep their taste and texture:

Most mushrooms, except for morel mushrooms, should be kept in the fridge. Storing unwashed mushrooms in a paper bag helps them stay fresh longer.
There’s a bit of a debate with squash! Winter squash, like acorn and butternut, should stay out of the fridge and be kept in a cool, dry place for a couple of months. However, zucchini and summer squash do better in the fridge and last for about four days there.
Bananas are like the rebels of the fruit world. They don’t need to be in the fridge. Just keep them on your counter, and they’ll ripen perfectly without being affected. They’ll stay yellow and delicious.
These root veggies are best kept outside the fridge in a cool, dry place. Refrigeration can change their texture and taste.
Fruits like peaches and plums should ripen on the counter. Once they’re ready, enjoy their juicy sweetness. Remember to wash them right before eating to keep them fresh.
