Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the ‘Sela Tunnel’, on Saturday acclaimed as the world’s longest twin-lane tunnel.PM Modi will also initiate numerous state developmental projects, including the UNNATI scheme valued at ₹10,000 crore.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in February 2019, and after facing several challenges along the way, it is now fully prepared.
Unlocking Strategic Advantages: The Significance of the Sela Tunnel
Positioned at an altitude of 13,000 feet, the Sela Tunnel has been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at a cost of ₹825 crore. The project encompasses two tunnels: Tunnel 1 spans 1,003 meters, while Tunnel 2 is a twin-tube structure stretching over 1,595 meters. Additionally, the project includes two roads measuring 8.6 km.
The tunnel’s significance lies in providing all-weather connectivity to Tawang, located along the border with China. Furthermore, it reduces travel time to Tawang by at least one hour, facilitating the rapid deployment of weapons, soldiers, and equipment to forward areas near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The tunnel ensures continuous connectivity to Tawang and nearby regions regardless of weather conditions, while also decreasing travel time between Tawang and Tezpur by one hour.
The new infrastructure will enable the movement of Indian troops in an area close to China.
