Preventive Measures For Nainital Forest Fire

The Nainital administration has sought assistance from both forest department employees and army personnel to combat the blaze. Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami emphasized strict action against those who deliberately set fire to forests. Locals sometimes start fires for traditional land clearing or to promote specific vegetation growth. The situation remains under control, but authorities continue to monitor and respond to any developments. Let’s hope for a swift resolution to this environmental challenge.

A massive forest fire is sweeping through the forest surrounding Nainital in Uttarakhand. It has been burning for 60 hours due to the deployment of Indian Air Force personnel and MI 17 choppers in an effort to quell the raging fire. The choppers are collecting water and jet spraying the affected areas to douse the fire in an operation termed “Bambi Bucket.” The fire has reportedly gutted 108 hectares of forest.

The Indian Army and Indian Air Force are working together to reduce the forest fire in the Nainital region. According to the daily bulletin provided by the Uttarakhand Forest Department, 26 incidents of forest fire were recorded in the state in the last 24 hours. Five incidents occurred in the Garhwal region, where 33 to 34 hectares of forest area were affected.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Urges Everyone to Prevent Forest Fires

Recently, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister met with officials from the Kumaon Division to talk about stopping forest fires. He said it’s not just the Forest Department’s job to keep an eye out. He wants other departments to be alert too. He also asked people to help out to stop forest fires.

The Chief Minister knows forest fires can hurt nature and people’s lives. So, he wants everyone to work together to stop them. He said all departments should work together and be ready to act fast if there’s a fire.

He also wants people to watch out for anything that could start a fire in the forests. He said if we all keep an eye out and work together, we can stop forest fires from happening.

Cause Of Nainital Forest Fire

As per the “Forest Fire 2019” report from the Forest Research Institute, which comes under the Environment Ministry, approximately 95% of forest fires are caused by humans. Some common causes include locals setting fire to clear land or promoting the cultivation of new grass, shifting cultivation, burning of waste materials such as cigarette stubs, and intentional lighting of fires with criminal intent.

It is crucial to address these human-caused factors to prevent such devastating forest fires in the future. Awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of laws, and community involvement are necessary to protect our precious forests and the ecosystems they support.
