Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal contests ED summons over the Liquor Scam 2024 in the High Court. Today’s hearing holds immense significance.

Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took legal action on Tuesday by filing a petition in the Delhi High Court to contest all summonses sent to him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the Delhi Excise policy case. The court’s bench is set to review the case on Wednesday, March 20.

In a significant development on Monday, the ED publicly named Kejriwal for the first time in connection with the scandal. The agency implicated Kejriwal, along with BRS leader K Kavitha and others, alleging their involvement in a conspiracy related to the formulation and execution of the Delhi excise policy.

According to the ED’s statement, Kavitha, who was arrested last week, is accused of collaborating with top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. Allegedly, this collaboration was for gaining favorable treatment in the excise policy. In exchange, Kavitha purportedly facilitated a payment of ₹100 crore to AAP leaders.

Kavitha has been placed under judicial custody until March 23.

The ED further disclosed that it has conducted extensive searches at 245 locations nationwide since initiating the case in 2022. Fifteen individuals, including former Delhi deputy CM and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, Aam Admi Party leader Sanjay Singh, and several liquor businessmen, have been arrested. The agency has filed six charge sheets in the case so far, with assets worth over ₹128 crore being seized.

Responding to the ED’s allegations, the Aam Admi Party questioned the timing and evidence presented by the agency. They criticized the ED’s apparent haste in the matter despite it being sub judice. The AAP accused the ED of being politicized and acting as a tool for the BJP, claiming that the BJP is determined to arrest Kejriwal at any cost, fearing his influence.
